How about Pippin Pie, which IS a dessert?! A pippin is a kind of pot, and maybe it's the substituted "p" that stands for "quiet" ("pipkin" KEEPS i.e. contains "p" for quiet), so to speak?

Another possibility might be "cooking" = anagram of the letters of container + p or sh --- but I've not found anything yet. Fascinating.....I shan't give up!

Can you explain how "ec" represents "be quiet"?

The parsing for Pecan Pie could be:-
Cooking = Preparing - the elements of container/quiet/greek letter

Container = Can
Be quiet = Pe (sound of P - be quiet musically)
Greek Letter = Pie (sound of Pi Greek letter)

Pe Can Pie

I fear you're right, chris: had thought of it that way myself, but don't find it very impressive as clue. I wonder what quiz this is. Perhaps ernie can tell us! At least we kept on trying (in my case even in my sleep)! Respect, respect!
