Been having trouble getting onto the site, but here now (obviously), and I see #1 right off. It's beautiful in southern New England- dazzling blue sky with a rush of red and yellow and orange (leaves, that is).

Others too since last attempt at posting...

Darn! I have to leave and won't be back till about 5:30 your time. Got them all though. A decidedly Mozartean flair today, Jolan.

Hi jolan
Just back in from twice yearly gathering of retired teachers from the school I taught at (so not at my most alert).
I can see #3, though!

1. I wanted to say ‘beyond grace’ but couldn’t see the term in Chambers or fully parse it.

2. Cuffs – double definition

3. Cosi fan tutti – anagram (dance) of ‘Fast Teutonic’ – definition - (Ital) that is what all women do (Chambers).

4. Clone - Capital (c)ognac + Single (lone), definition - double

5. Preferment - Sermonize without a church – pre(ach) + work up (ferment), definition - promotion, especially within the church

As usual, thanks for the mental workout - looking forward to seeing the answer for #1 :)

Hi Jolan
Really enjoyed these today- thanks for all your efforts.
My suggestions are the following.

1. Just prune leader in garden plot and bloom becomes something that has to be abandoned as a failure (6,5) BUSTED FLUSH

(j)UST (Just without its first letter or pruned) IN BED (Garden Plot) + FLUSH (Bloom)

2. Boxes of bracelets? (5) CUFFS

A double definition

3. Fast Teutonic dance – that is what all women do, in Rome? (4,3,5) COSI FAN TUTTE

Anagram of fast teutonic (anagram indicator dance)- translation from Italian (or Rome) ‘Thus do they all’

4. Capital cognac! Single or double? (5) CLONE

C (capital or first letter of Cognac) + Lone (single)

5. Sermonize without a church and work up to a promotion, especially within the church (10) PREFERMENT

Pre(ach)= sermonize without a ch + ferment (work up).
