Been having trouble getting onto the site, but here now (obviously), and I see #1 right off. It's beautiful in southern New England- dazzling blue sky with a rush of red and yellow and orange (leaves, that is).

Hi Jolan, just got in from golf it's beautiful here today. I don't think I'll have time to do the clues justice, but I will look forward to seeing the solutions.

1. I wanted to say ‘beyond grace’ but couldn’t see the term in Chambers or fully parse it.

3. Cosi fan tutti – anagram (dance) of ‘Fast Teutonic’ – definition - (Ital) that is what all women do (Chambers).

4. Clone - Capital (c)ognac + Single (lone), definition - double

5. Preferment - Sermonize without a church – pre(ach) + work up (ferment), definition - promotion, especially within the church
