Just to get me started, do I understand correctly that the answers to the clues are the initials of the alphabet attached to the clue? I get the rest, just not if answers behind clue A would both begin with A, e.g.

I get the feeling it's going to be a long weekend!

Solved a few clues, and it appears that the answers to each clue start with the same letter. So this makes it a lot easier!

Yes the 2 clues for A begin with A, one is 7 letters and one is 6 letters. The first answer for A has its clue "friendly sailor in a distance" the rest belongs to the other "A" answer.
26 of the answers are "the same thing" - you'll understand when you solve a few of them.
I try to get most of the answers on paper first, then have a go at fitting them in the grid. remember a4 themed answers go in Grid A, the other 12 themed answrrs go in Grid B

Excellent help from all of you. Thank you very much. Have done not so well up to J and now it's all starting to fall into place. Still not sure about those 26 "themed" answers though.
I am enjoying it, though, I have to say. But I do miss the Rev.

Can anyone give me a hint on the themed answer beginning with U ?
Only other problem: I have an idea for G (1st half) but cannot fit in "shelf". Any ideas?

Hi Greedy.
The U theme is in Scotland. You're looking for words backwards except the U.

The shelf is a ledge.
