Is it possible to download the crossword in Harpers Magazine without subscribing?

I can't see any way. They want your money first.

It's possible to download the Spectator crossword! Do you know of another hard crossword other than AZED which you can download?

Harper's is regularly made available to us on this forum by Syzygy & Aristophanes. Just search & you'll find the latest, free & amusing: quite ingenious this month (i.e. the September one).

I've loaded this and am having trouble making head or tail of it! Can either of you give me a start up say with 1a - Creator of prohibition("The man with vitamin") - name involved in perjury spread in prominent letters (6,8)

The setter specifies that the two clues that make up 1a are entered in order. The first one is a simple definition, but the word has another meaning; the second is a bit more cryptic.

............and the 2-word answer fits in well with the idea of the whole thing, farr!
