Too many great entries to mention them all, I did like Samgamgee's reference to Richard Whiteley which may have inspired this weeks (controversial?) winner Les40 with....

Although "bank on" to indicate "rely" which then has to be modified before removal could be looked at as indirect anagram, I think the "Countdown" reference and the idea of that programme that some letters are selected from a larger group sufficiently infers the answer.
