May I but in here please ? - I am newish to Help Forum and have problems following links.

Spectator 2125 41a has defeated me. I have ?C?LA?ION
but cannot find the relevant word. The setter says that it is in Collins but I have no Collins and cannot find it in a word completer

It was ACYLATION --- "acyl" is in Chambers!

Using the letters you have, I tried several word completer sites and the answer came up in all of them.
The sites were - Chambers Word Wizard, onelook.com and universal crossword solver.

I miss why acylation matches the theme. Scalation "fits" but also fails to convince. Am I missing something significant. Sorry to harp on this one.

'Acylation' fits in with the theme, 'scalation' doesn't - have you done what the quotation suggests?
