Thanks for this nifty puzzle, Les, and for the nice eulogy. I finished yesterday, but I'm not sure about one of my answers (for one of your clues!). Now I have to dwell on the secret setter identification...

I don't expect to be number 5 as I'm only about halfway through.
I think I can eliminate a couple of secret setters, unless, of course, there is some bluffing going on here!

Well nearly halfway. Still thinking about SS1 but I think SS2 is Greedy Kite (though I am torn between another two) but I am going with GK.

Don't know if I was meant to wait until I have finished the JE but as there is a possibility I won't thought I would get the ball rolling :)

Thanks Les. That's very useful. I thought I was seeing double!
I've about four more clues to do. I'm unsure of the (full) parsing of a few but I've put it down to gaps in my general knowledge.
I think Ixion might be ss1.
