A hint for 1d as I think you're on the wrong track:
Abb. for bass + musical instrument reversed("about") = precious stone!

Thanks, fazed - "worm" is rather loose, though, don't you think?

I have beryl (lyre backwards + b for bass) Am I correct?

Did not see lyre - idiot me.

Finished after starting late afternoon, and I have all 13 of the theme (never heard of a few - thank goodness for google!) (and this forum). But I can't parse some, e.g.

...actually, as I typed each one in I realised what it was. Good puzzle!

Very enjoyable puzzle, thought all the clues worked perfectly.

I have "themed" clues at:
1ac, 9ac, 10ac, 22ac, 25ac, 26ac
2dn, 6dn, 17dn ,18dn
Could someone please kindly point out the other two (I am assuming 6ac is not included).
