I have two left in this month's Saga crossword. In both cases, I think I know the answer but I am having trouble fully equating the clue to my supposed solution.

The details are:-

5 Down
With India's tail in, get slips to ring man at wicket (10)
I have ?A?E?E?P?R
I think the solution is GAMEKEEPER Why?

6 Down
A trained fire-fighter (8)
I have ?O?E?I?E
I think the solution is HOSEPIPE Why?

In the second case I may be searching for something more complicated than needed - a hosepipe is trained on a fire to extinguish it - can it be that simple?!

India's tail - A
anag of - GET
man at cricket - KEEPER

Gatekeeper

Yes I think you have explained hosepipe perfectly.

I think you are right with GATEKEEPER - "wicket" being a gate rather than my assumption that it was the cricket variety. Thanks a lot Mamya
