Having bother 64D "character's disgrace finally got out". I make that sigma but it doesn't fit the rest. A hint for a subhumsn please...

Sigma is the character, disgrace is one letter longer.That any use as a nudge?

Wow, I'm impressed and depressed to read this thread. Printed the crossword off and thought "something to keep me going for a while". Couldn't believe so many had finished it already. It takes a couple of hours to simply read all the clues! Can only assume you have all presents bought and wrapped, all cards written and posted, all food bought, all cooking done and the house cleaned and nothing else to do but a crossword. Maybe you have servants. Just hope someone is still around to answer my queries in about a week's time.

No problem, teenieleak: as "Senior Citizen" I have all the time in the world, we have no family coming for Christmas (only a very nice elderly French lady painter for a couple of nights), there will be English Turkey done by my brilliant wife, so I, The Pasha, can concentrate on the important things in life i.e. crosswords & quizzes. The "theme" really is easy to guess very early on, so don't be discouraged, and I'm sure I won't be the only one around willing (and I hope able) to answer all your questions. Sometimes I realize just how lucky I am! And then the landscape, the quiet, the friendly neighbours...Think I'd better shut up till then..............
