I spent a fair old bit of time on this
one yesterday and have just come back
to it late - very late- in the day, as
I couldn't comprehend some of the clues.
This compiler uses a lot more double
entendres than other Times setters and,
subsequently, his xwords take about
twice as long! Could some kind soul
explain these, as I haven't fully
worked them out?
1AC:- "Door on stage previously the
way out" (ans. "Leg before wicket")
19AC:-"Affect to make trouble, after
seeing Russian coin on Scrabble board?"
(ans.- I hope! - "Play at")
Also, I feel the answer for 22 Down
doesn't sound right somehow. I can see
that a sow would be "in pig", but it
does sound rather leaden compared to a
dog which would be "in pup". I have
NEVER heard the expression "in pig"
used anywhere!
