Thanks anyway james. Finally finished, just as I was starting to get the hang of it - story of my life.

I'm still stuck with these in the top left despite earlier hints on here:
1a, 12a, 14a, 4d

Also need 20d - I have R?D?E?S - I can think of a musical pairing but can't see how the longer name fits clue for 20d??

Any more help please?

Got 4d now which gives me the grid answer to 14a - need to work back to solve 14a now!

Thanks mrs trellis - got it now!

In the first of these puzzles I tried Mrs Trellis's suggestion (putting in the other partner's enumeration) but I think it made things too easy. If adding this extra difficulty has irritated some of you, it doesn't seem to have put everyone off: apparently several (presumably correct) solutions were submitted before breakfast on the first day!
