hi Germy,
I agree.
I downloaded about 11.30am.(Dapto NSW)
You have made great progress.
I'm troubled a bit by the theme.(or just stupid) but I'll keep going in good Aussie style :-).

Does anybody else have a feeling of deja vu about the theme?

The Crossword Editor has replied:

I fear that you are quite right. I am getting it corrected ASAP. Meanwhile here is a version of how the puzzle was intended to look.
My apologies.
HUGH STEPHENSON

20.Hirst's original work? (7)
21. Hull bird admitted to Royal Society (7)

Thanks germy!

Pendragon, yes - and I gave up on the last one like this, so what with the theme and the missing clue I just gave up last night. I'll have another go.

Surely the letter-count refer to the answer to the clue rather than the entry to go in the grid? I spent ages trying to make 21d into a 7-letter word, and it was only on seeing germy's post that it made sense, but I still think it's wrong of the setter to do it that way.
Also, has anyone else got the same word twice for 25d?

The letter-count is for the answer to be entered in the grid. In 25dn, I think both parts of the pairing are the same. I'm not 100% sure because I'm struggling to find an answer to 27ac. I'm also struggling to see how 5ac works, though there appears to be only one answer.

I haven't got either of those peterm, so can't help. I still maintain that the letter-count should refer to the clue - it's pointless having it refer to the grid entry.

Mrs Trellis: the Special Instructions are quite clear about the letter counts. They refer to what you enter into the grid.

25D is the same word as in "X and X".
