Aged 12 I used to go to Birkenhead Children's Hospital on Saturdays to help feed the patients (imagine that being allowed today!) I will never forget one Saturday afer Bonfire Night-a poor little boy had suffered bangers pushed down his trousers and another had a jumping jack in his wellie boot. To this day I won't go to a private firework party.
