At the risk of being made to feel foolish,
what is the relevance of the title TUFTY?

I don't know if you'vre finished this, or are just starting.
'Tufty' is another word for 'a group in which two unclued lights belong'.

Thanks Malone

I have finished but hadn't realised that Tufty
was a synonym for the group.

Stuck with 14ac/6dn. Can't get the common letter. puppets? pup and step backwards but the result is not children plus doesn't fit with 6dn. This is my only gap in a good crossword. Help please.

Try a dog beginning with M for the children one.
6d is more often written without the 1st letter here --way down in the alphabet!

GK - doesn't the dog begin with a 'P' (and is then reversed?

Sorry, that was it: malone is right! Trying to work from memory here!(That's another dog I meant, but of course "around" refers to the whole word).

Teenieleek - just dredge up a 7 letter word, ending in pets, for 'children'. 'Puppets' wasn't a million miles away!

Thanks chaps(I think). Just as well we are all crossword solvers or that little exchange could well have been gobbledegook.
