Stuck on 5 down. Any ideas chaps?

A good idea would be to write the clue and give the letters which you have and the spaces - like other entries on the site do - then people who don't have the crossword in front of them can try to offer help

Answer 'gastroenteritis' - anagram of strongerteaitsa.

strongerteaitsa is not an anagram of gastroenteritis, but it's close.

Just replace the "a" with an "i" (= 1) and it IS an anagram as required!

GK, i don't think the last part IS an anagram at all - it's becomes it is (itis).

OK, looked at that way,you're probably right: I was just poiunting out there was only a difference of one letter anyway!

i must revolt (an anagram of trevor? - close enough i s'pose) against that, it shows a lack of appreciation for the construction of the clue.
