I know there's one called Heriot - but how is this a cryptic?

Thank you! Always tough to see the wood for the trees when my brain gets stuck on a particular train of thought. I'm on the last clue and in a similar predicament - think I know what it is but not why:

27a "Attempt to score a goal at tennis"

-R-P / -H-T

Explanations gratefully recieved!

Drop shot

A drop shot is a shot in some racquet sports in which the ball (or birdie) is hit relatively softly, and lands just over and close to the net.

I found it really quick today, must be getting into Araucaria's way of thinking. How about anyone else?

Went in fits and starts today embee; re drop shot (ie a clue with 2 straightforward definitions), is that what them in the know refer to as an '&lit' clue? I still haven't got my head round that one. If so,'quite fair' (pretty), which was also in today's xword is one too?

Thanks mamya & trevor. I've had it explained before but I can't get it to sink in. I'll have a look at the link. Thanks again.
