I'd appreciate any help in parsing two of the clues in yesterday's CRYPTIC CROSSWORD:
9ac If in revolt, begin to follow a social climber (7)
Ans: PARVENU
1dn Contracted record to lead top diva (7) Ans: TAPERED

record=tape
top diva=red http://reddiva.com/resume.htm
contacted=tapered

conracted=tapered sorry

Tapered (contracted) - tape (record) + 're' reference to +top of d(iva) .

I should've checked out 'The Red Diva'.

In the other clue, I suspect that 'in revolt'
may give UP and so P...U somehow, but I can't see how 'begin to follow (a)' fits in.

no I can't see it either,I was playing with ensue=follow for some time
we know that a social climber is a parvenu but cannot get any further.

can see Upstart but....

'in revolt' = UP, 'begin' = START to follow = UPSTART, a social climber or PARVENU.
