Some strange ones today. Hopefully not so strange in a few minutes...

Self-referential hint = clue.

Pump air into salt = carbonate.

Project 'Old Invader' cut short = jut. (I know that project=jut.)

And here are two consecutive clues. The answer to 17 is 'tank':
1. 2 typically has no memory of fight...
2. ...it's over German 17.

Answers are combat and tiger respectively. (Tiger was a German tank.)

Many thanks.

"A carbonate is a salt or ester of carbonic acid"
and TO carbonate is to pump air or gas into. (eg fizzy/carbonate water)

the Jute were a germanic tribe who invaded britain.

self ref... the clue refers to itself as a clue.

do you have the answers to 2 and 17?

Many thanks, gents. That 'combat' clue was a bit convoluted - I'd never have gotten it.
