No one appears to have mentioned number 96 and, recently, numbers 50 and 81. I am obviously thick. I would appreciate HINTS.

Mathsman my hint for 96 would be - part of a telephone. 81 - There's an anagram in there and it leads to a famous rider. Clue is also in the last four words - something he was famous for!

Dear Maisiep and Wilhemina,

Got 81, thanks. Still baffled by 96 (can't find a SUITABLE word starting with the first half of the religious man, and the link to the telephone); also 50 is a pain.

I can't help feeling there are two answers out there ofr 96 - mine is an obscure alternative spelling for a more well known word, which only seems to be in Chambers, but fits the clue.

For 79, thanks for hints - I can see an answer which fits residue in a glass and extremities, but why '...but this is all there is'?

Is anyone else unhappy with 'On one's toes' for 80? It seems too imprecise for such pernickety setters!
