Hi emrach,
In fact I'm not an opera fan at all - but I do like Wagner - particularly The Ring and Parsifal. Der Rosenkavalier has some beautiful music, and (though I generally don't like Mozart - shock, horror!) The Magic Flute, Marriage of Figaro and Cosi fan Tutte are enjoyable romps.

Strange my dad brought Lutoslavski and Janack to the the british Isles but he always said if, on asking who he most admired it had to be Mozart - just for his pure early talent - nothing like the eastern music he so much admired and loved.

Not sure about Lutovslaski, but I love Janacek - the string quartets, the glagolitic mass, the sinfonietta, the songs (not the operas, though!)

Wow and you are not a fan - a lot of people don't know these composers. My claim to faim is dad not only introduced them the to UK but I have medals from their countries acknowledging his work. Do you like Jenufa and Cunning little little vixen always a good one to introduce people to opera.

No - not a fan of the operas. Love the sound he makes, though.

Well if your are slightly interested you can google dad Malcolm Rayment. He was also the first person to do desert island discs but you would probably have to go in the the Glsgow Herald Archives :)
