sudokulover, can you explain 7d please. I have imp?un?e and submerge = implunge, but I can't work the clue out. I'm also stuck on

14a "Stop sign? Hospital nurse skirts zone (6)" I have ham??h
22a "Poet's circle,checked, finally died away (5)" I have ste?me. Yes I know that's 6 letters - I reckon there is a misprint.

TIA

implunge. imp = old word for scion/shoot on tree = limb. + lunge, rope used in horse training.

14a. hamzah.

hospital = h
nurse = amah

z = zone.

means apostrophe sign in english. (arab word really)

Thanks to phillip - 'lunge' was an unfamiliar word

Tony, I was just about to query your reply when the explanation dawned. Silly me :-)
