In the GK crossword in Saturday's Sun there was a clue.
The area of a baseball field directly in-front of the pitcher. (4,6)
I had d?a?,?e?t?r?
Obviously dead centre fits but I can't find any reference to it.Any ideas?

The pitcher's plate is 18" behind dead center of the mound.

AKA pitching rubber. Perhaps centre though? Would never be spelled that way here. :)

Thanks aristo,I thought it must be the right answer;I also think that they should of used the american center instead of centre, when referring to baseball.cheers.

"Should of" seems more like an Americanism- thought you might have been teasing...or might of been?
