As indicated didn't get 1)(the JA bit) and it has still not clicked. Great clues though Jolan. Thanks once again.

Thanks to all, Ari, Jazzy, andyc. Tony and AB have got them absolutely correctly with such clear explanations that there's no need to post mine which are almost exactly the same. Very well solved and explained.

Bless

Got 1 and 3 immediately, and 2 after a bit, but had a transatlantic disadvantage with the last two. I assumed that 4 was an anagram for a cartoon character but simply didn't know this one, and I'd never heard jitterbug used that way, though now I see that if I'd only looked in Chambers I'd have gotten the answer at once!

Believe it or not, Ari. I always keep you in mind when setting my weekly clues. I wondered if "Thomas" had translated across the pond. Obviously not. You don't know what ypu're missing. Seeing as I've entered my second childhood, I'm a great fan.

See you next week. I'm off to pig it now. lol

Thanks Jolan for the excellent clues.
Well done to those who solved them all.
Thomas the tank engine is very popular with my young relatives in Australia.

It's just something I've missed, Jolan. Once I saw the others' answer it rang a bell, and when I googled it the image looked familiar. I've no doubt seen snatches of it deep in the past, since a version of it has been aired here. Excellent clues as always. Oh, and you needn't be so considerate; I'm not as provincial as you might think, and I also like to learn!
