Thought I'd start a new thread with the above purpose if anyone wants to join in.

I was very impressed with Trevor's; 27a 'Homer replaced Bart with legal unknown, that's easy to understand (10)

and Peterm's;
36a 'Short, stiff announcement of anglers complete failure?' (4)

mmm well I haven't solved those yet.
But I do like Les's 37 ac. Googling Longchamp was interesting.

I'm pleased to say that I've solved more of this puzzle than I have any other Joint Effort, so on behalf of my brain, thankyou all!

Particular favourites...

jamoza's 49a, Paul's 10d and best of all, jws's 23d!

Lots of good clues. My personal favourites are Les's 37ac and 8dn, and aristo's 30dn.

This Yankee hayseed has to admit that he'd never heard the expression in Les's 37a, and figured it out only because of visits with the Degas in Boston and the Manet in Chicago. I still have a bunch of question marks to erase, and must take some time to single out favo(u)rite clues from so many impressive ones. A turning point for greedy kite- uncharacteristic naughtiness.

My particular favourites were 36a and 44a from peterm and 48a from ixion plus many others.

I think this has been the best JE so far.

Loved "wanting pop" in greedy kite's 34a.
Who wouldn't like peterm's bad day of fishing in 36a?
Liked the double use of courses in Les's 37a (by the way, Les, I did get the football thing right away- clever).
Thought jamoza's 49a (on the mend) was endearing.
Re 39a: The gloves are off, AB.
And soooo many other neat ones, from all of you.
Oh, and thanks, peterm.
