Hmmm well it fits. That means that 5 across begins with a S. Distinguished old archbishop is back (6) S?G?A?. The only word that fits is SIGNAL, but the defination is not there.

Signal is correc t - Lang is an old archbishop, followed by "is" backwards, definition "distinguished" is one meaning of signal (as in outstanding)
