1a - Look for a word for spned plus a word for a long time to yield parts of text.

11a - try Western with a words for islands followed by term not finishing and you will produce the name of a famous school.

14a - put a typical crossword term for gold inside a word meaning firm (not as in company) and you will find a term suggesting something is worth depositing.

7d - the answer is something which children will play in.

Hope these hints help.

1a That should read "spend", of course, in the sense of spending time.
