I'm thinking Bishop for the man with the chequered background, as he was a composer, with "skipping" clueing hop but can't get the Bis so probably all up the creek.

3 bi shop bishop, answer to clue 1?

7 I think the answer is Campion. Camp + i(xi)on.

And the definition is in 3 - pink.

is 2. chopin - hop C and in?
