Part 2

A final clue it's answer suggested by the link (FROGS) requires a reshuffle of the answers to No.s 1-7, ie [me/cete/rank/eyes/sigh/under/oners]

The French, according to Willie Wallace's passion, certain to embrace split, Yorks men to be routed(6-6,9 7)

Should probably add that according to Wikipaedia "The phrase has since entered two Oxford quotation dictionaries."

[The French, according to Willie] [Wallace's passion], certain(sure) to embrace split(rend), Yorks men(anag) to be routed(6-6,9 7)

Well done everybody, particularly Peterm, Groundskeeper Willie of the Simpsons quote adopted by some members of the press to describe the French. Wallace being the Wensleydale lover of W and Gromit.

Apologies unnecessary jazzgirl. Ixion's gig has always been a free-for-all.

Thanks again ixion.

So sorry I had to miss this, ixion. I had connection problems, work, and my own "technical" problems with Peer Review. This looked especially daunting, not to mention un-PC. Love the Simpsons reference. When I was switching channels a few nights ago Bart appeared; as he was entering the school office the principal was saying (on the phone), "It's MY birthday, Mother, not OUR anniversary." So funny. Anyway, your usual masterful effort, and peterm's usual bravura.
