Sorry on it's own this answer I've given doesn't make sense.

The clue is 19a) and reads: 13 - selfishly? (6).

The answer to 13a) may have a bearing n the solution.

The clue for 13a) is: Avoid nearly all cheese grated by wife (6).

(I have an answer for this as well which I think begs the question in 19a)

There's been some argument on AnswerBank about this answer. I've put forego, but if that's correct, I think it's a poor clue!

Hi! Don't have this crossie but the last clue's answer must be ESCHEW, I think. and anag of nearly chees()e) + W(ife). What do you think?

Just checked in Chambers, gives same definition for both Forgo and Forego. So it must be right.

.... and, sure enough, eschew = forego. But 'selfishly' ?

I suppose eschew = to abstain from
and forego = to give up; to do without
so, to eschew selfishly must be forego.

hmmm!
