Brilliant, thanks! Turns out I had a couple of across clues wrong which was hampering me:
I had "closest" for 11ac, interpreting "plug hole" as
clot rather than
slot, and "Al Green" for 16ac, thinking the word play was
a +
l (green) +
green (forest).
