Martin, you're still ahead of me, I see the connection of what you're saying with 24d, but it's not helping! Maybe it'll all look clearer in the morning

The penny has dropped: there's only one of each, and they don't appear together, not at the same time,at least.

Penny dropped here, too.

Mrs T. - read the letters across the grid in accordance with the derived instruction and then perform the transformation. The result is perfectly in keeping with what Tramp says at the start. Nice one.

Still a bit unsure about some of the bottom half though - even though I've completed the grid. Some of the clues seem unnecessarily long. Maybe it's just to improve the surface reading.

Eureka! Just came back to say I've got it and you beat me to it Martin, well done. That's that for another month, must say I preferred it to the last couple of Geniuses.
And I confess to not understanding the working of 6d, not that it matters massively, but am curious - which of the 't' words is extra?

You too cmk, looks like a huge penny landed on us all almost at once. Samantha says hi btw.

Mrs T. - 6 down is rather cheeky - think of it as a two syllable word for those who are slashing...

Let's hope the penny that dropped on all of us wasn't the one spent by 6 down....

Just about completed this, including the transformation which was clever (of tramp, not me!)but am unsure of 17dn. An adjective, a place name or a girl's name? Also does 15dn have four sides or five? Any hints would be appreciated.

17D - The definition is the first word.

Any hints for 15D or 21D? I have a few ideas for the former, but nothing will tie down, and for the latter, why the devil are there so many words?!!!!
