Sorry. 27a rather. Re 26a, see thread below. Must be ideas, and thus an error. How many letters for other one? There's an American poet, Amy Lowell.

Mary Levy ,the poet,was Jewish and so maybe the clue is suggesting that a tithe was for church purposes?
