Peterm, what I meant was 27A and 10A are entered as per the wordplay(6D still eludes me but I presume the same rule applies)although the solution from the definition part is altered to fit.

Picking this up again for round 2.

Thanks Kilgore T...I've been through Chambers and can't find a sensible word to fit - is there a one word definition of the answer in the clue?

yes. try chambers word wizard (only 3 possibilities), and then look up defs in onelook.com.

Thanks KT...for some reason I'd decided the one word definition had to be at the start or end of the clue

I've just caught up with this thread again. The one clue that's causing me grief is 1ac. Any chance of a gentle nudge? I've still got the Word Square to tackle.

word wizard again to the rescue. use probably the first word that pops into your head for "boring" (uninteresting), but not quite all of it, inside a word meaning dress. Search word wizard for patterns using the truncated "boring" word; there aren't that many.
