If you want to see a scandalously gaudy Yule (or rather Jul) dish, you must check out lutfisk, the traditional Swedish Christmas Eve offering. It's a white fish (soaked in lye, of course), served with white potatoes, a white sauce, and (here's the kicker) white pepper. Almost blinding. It tastes rather like a leather baseball glove, and I love it. And this is what you get when you're GOOD.
