Going on a hunch that it could start with either Lady or Lag...once I found my AA (road map book, not my AA 9 steps to sobriety.)It was quite easy actually, but I will continue to bask in the glory anyway.

Well done, Pastille. I was convinced that "high class girl" was "deb" as in debutante, so was never going to get it.
I then attempted today's FT cryptic which was an absolute stinker.
