Yesterday I read the thread re 1across. Like Mikey and Confused.com I had never heard of a 'bread and butter letter' and would never have got it without the Forum's help. Like one of you I find Auracaria's habit of turning the definition part of the clue into a cryptic one
very frustrating. Anyway nearly done now but haven't got Charlotte's suicidal lover yet.

Trying hard...well done ! I think you are correct about 1 and 14 across. If every other letter was there, it would be possible to get BREAD AND BUTTER LETTER, and I suppose it could be googled, to find out what it means. But the definition included in the clue is not clear, which was my point.

Google is jolly handy but we should need it to solve a crossword puzzle.

By the way, if you are referring to 9a, I think you there already !

Thanks sudukolover. My mistake was putting weak instead of warm for some reason [22ac] but Even so I only know about Werther's mints. Now with
chocolate!! Until next weekend.
