John Walker broke the World Record in the mile run with a time of 3:49.4 minutes set at Göteborg , Sweden, on 12 August 1975.

sorry,that's for clue 2.

I was wondering wether clue 4) was an awful pun. "while he was asleep" being Wayne Sleep, who set some sort of record in ballet dancing. (if you set a record does that make you world champion?).

trevor you were right

in 1973 sleep establishedd a world record by doing an entrachat-douze - a jump with 12 beats of the foot, this record still stands today.

would never have got this without trevors idea of what the quizz was looking for

Mmmm... I'm still unsure that "while he was asleep" would refer to Wayne Sleep. I'd pencil it in until someone posts a better answer (or not).
