After SIX hours of desperate searching I only need (a) an explanation for the last 3 letters of 31d (brass goods?),and (b)an indication as to the 2nd letter of 35d,with hint of justification --- I can't ask more cryptically than that, I'm afraid!

31d A 'brass' is a prostitute.

35d where you put stews.
