This can only be "Lie detector", but can only see the IE = that is

reader = detector, #%?! knows where the "l" comes from!

We may have to wait until morning for an explanation on the Lie Detector, it did seem a bit vague

If I may come in on "lie detector": it's ie ted(=spread-in Chambers!)up in lector!

...oh,and heigh-ho = hay + hoe (or did you realize that?)!!! Yhat's it for my insomniac burst!

Yes I did understand the Hay + Hoe Homophones in the Heigh-ho clue, and I sort of toyed about with the lector being a school reader, but the "ted" meaning spread is a new one on me, I did take a look in my Chambers and your bang on the button with your explanation of the answer, Well done. Les40
