The answer given for the clue is SKITE in today's paper. Does it really make any sense with the clue?

I agree that the answer given of SKITE seems to bear no relation to the given clue,as per Trevor's thoughts.
BTW what publication is the crossword from?

It is Sunday Magazine section of Deccan Chronicle from India dated 2.10.11.

Thank you. I would be inclined to email the paper and point out your concerns.
It may make them take greater care in the future,as there is nothing more annoying than wrong clues in a crossword.
