I have found this a most difficult task as my tastes in music are many and varied. Don't reckon my taste will meet with many people's but here goes anyway!

Mahalia Jackson singing The Lord's Prayer

Ella - The Nearness of You

Beethoven Violin Concerto in D Major

Bach - Double violin concerto

Queen (the one with Tonight I want to have myself such a good time)

Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick - Skin and Bone

Jimmy Guiffre - Train and the River (or preferably the DVD of Jazz on a Summer's Day)

The Waterson's - The one with Raggle Taggle Gypsies)

My "thing" if I was allowed one would be my husband and if not, a photograph album.

My book would be The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran as I'm still trying to understand it so it'd keep me well occupied.

I am assuming, of course, that my desert island will be well stocked with sauvignon blanc, "people what do" and lots of suntan lotion.

Some interesting pieces Wendy. Will have to try and listen to them in near future.
Have started my list and now have about 15 musical pieces!!
I have found it very difficult, as musical favourites vary according to mood and personal circumstances. No matter,I will put pen to paper at the end of weekend. Before then, I have to get 5th and final child off to university on Saturday. So will have more time and opportunity to play my music!!
Regards,
NIMROD

Been galvanting up in Arbroath, but could not stop thinking about 8 favourite tunes!

Still not settled on my final list, only just realising what an eclectic mix I like to listen to...

Pipesmoker...the Corries was the first "gig" I ever saw, dragged along by my Mother to the Webster Hall, and Suki also love the The Sensational Alex Harvey Band @ Celtic Park (The Who headlined!)

Must concentrate, must concentrate...

With 5 children, I can only wonder that you ever found time to listen to music!!

So you have 5 kids, listen to music and do crosswords. What on earth do you do in your spare time...? (Grin)

3) Vivaldi 4 Seasons played by Nigel Kennedy
4) Francis Lai (film theme) Un Homme et Une
Femme
5) 'Greensleeves' played by Kenny G.
6)Jean Michel Jarre - 'Oxygene'
7)Rod Stewart singing 'Sailing'
8)Billy Joel singing 'She's Always A Woman'

Gina you have got me thinking hard now.
You have reminded me of Un homme et une femme, and now my choices have gone out of the window.
And now I remember sitting in my sports car (30 years ago) with a friend and 2 girlfriends, listening to Ramsey Lewis ,SUNGODDESS .
This thread is so subjective that every body who contributes will have different ideas.
Pipesmoker,I know that this was your idea and that you were looking for classical answers but I think that we can all have emotive feelings about all sorts of music.
My family has always sung Jerusalem as an anthem of hope and prosperity but after we sang it at my dads funeral it has a different meaning to me.
