Maybe Ash would consider adding a section which would accommodate just chat, separate from the Q & A but I'm not sure if that would work. I need an paracetamol :0)

@KateC -- you can type 'non-crossword' if you like, but it's 11 keystrokes longer than NC, so less likely to be used. The whole point of flagging non-crossword threads is that people who object can avoid them rather than getting into slanging matches.

@bullfrog, I misread your sentence re coding, and realise you meant it to precede the subject.e.g. NC /Bananas.
But all my other comments still stand.
I was on this forum many moons ago and have only recently returned. It certainly has changed enormously. I hope it can be resolved. Kate

The people who object don't start slanging matches. They are attacked by the usual small gang who seem to have nothing better to do than than spend every waking hour here.
Most complaints are not about some reasonable topic, they are about the infantile nonsense constantly posted by a couple of regular users.

#Well I have been laid up in bed all afternoon, knocked out by painkillers. Just read through the latest post on this thread. judith, the only reason you and I got into a spat was because of your snarky comments on here previously, when you started laying into someone else, and you may note, that the only time I get involved is when someone is abusive to someone else. As I have said before I don't like bullies, and if I could be bothered I would search through to the particular threads re judith etc, but I can't. In truth people like you who bleat on about the site being spoilt are very good at dishing it out, but have a hissy fit when you get it back.

Regarding a code - so that people would know that a thread wasn't about crosswords - I have posted threads which are clearly titled "not about crosswords", and still had people posting to complain that it's not about crosswords, so great idea in theory, but it won't stop those who are determine to find fault.

I have a much better idea for a code to indicate that a thread isn't about crosswords. Title it "Pastille".

Or perhaps the code should be: 'Philip and Judith: this thread is not about crosswords and is full of inconsequential ramblings of the kind you so clearly despise. Why not do yourselves and everyone else a favour and steer well clear of it, thus sparing us your tiresome whinging?'

Catchy, no?
