"Kinda like" is (I'm afraid) here too. Count your blessings, though. It's far better than "I was like" for "I said"- as in "I was like, you've got be kidding." The typical teenager uses the word "like" thousands of times a day. I once heard a girl say, "I was like, like I don't like LIKE like him." Perhaps the world is coming to an end.
Don't give in with the apostrophes. Rage against the machine!

I find the use of well instead of very, very
strange, e.g 'I was well happy when I read your latest thread' or even more incomprehensible 'it was well good' Where on earth does that spring from?

HelenB: Finally! Something that can't be blamed on the Evil Empire! Well can indeed mean very or very much, as in well content. It comes off sounding like a rural archaism, but a decidedly British one. Nooooobody uses it here, with the possible exception of members of isolated communities with Scottish/Irish/English roots.

It really annoys me when people use "marinade" when in fact they mean "marinate". And just as bad, confusing "infer" with "imply".

(And peple who begin sentences with the word "And"... (tee hee, better get back to the kitchen)

Hi Wendy, I agree, why start a new thread when this one could run forever! Have you noticed a recent and very annoying trend where people start a sentence with the word So for no particular reason? I also wonder if there's a cunning plan to change the word create to crate. I keep hearing otherwise eloquent speakers going on about crating this and crating that and I want to bop them. Not exactly apostrophe-related I s'pose but our ears need protection as well as our eyes, eh? Bye for now
