The thing with these clue solving exercises is that there is cryptic and cryptic.  At one end of the scale you've got Monday morning's Rufus - nice and gentle, at the other end AZED's mind-bogglers.  I think yours are nearer the AZED end.  Perfecly fair though.
I was thinking about your clues while pottering in the garden this morning.  Medieval Roman numerals and obscure Shakespearean verbs don't go with pottering!
