Hi peterm - another letter substitution clue...

word for shack - replace Hotel with Cold giving word defn "bare"

Mant thanks ixion. I must have gone wrong, but I can't see where. 24ac doesn't make any sense now if it ends in a "c". I've taken 12dn to be the clue which "suggests the theme", but I still can't make the connections.

24a does end in c - one of the 12D which also includes 9a and 23d

peterm, they are all 'one of us'. See same position in the other grids.
