Hi Cockie, an e-mail is on its way to you. Though I have no issues with answering your queries on here. That's what the forum is here for.

Hi Macky, to be consistent with the other final entries and their use of the original letters in unchecked cells, the entry should be 'MINI'

It took me far too long to realise that the final entry at 1D is simply an anagram of the original. But that left me with an entry at 37A that I can only explain as a phrase, (5,2), with an apostrophe in the first word. Can anyone please confirm this ?

Hi Meursault, yes that is what I have.

And it made me chuckle as I guessed what the final entry was long before sussing what the original unsorted one was!

An excellent puzzle, incredible construction.

I've solved all the clues except for 7d - For yachtsmen, this instrument came adrift? (5).

I've got the original and modified 1d and the messages from the extra words, but I haven't put anything in the grid yet. With that in mind, is it worthwhile trying to enter the answers to the across clues, or should I just not bother with all that and go straight to following the instruction from the across clues?

Orson, 7d is a composite anagram. Take the letters CAME away from YACHTSMAN, then jumble the remaining letters to get the answer.

Probably best not to bother trying to enter the across answers. Just follow the instruction, then check everything carefully.

Woodlouse, re 22, 'species' = SP, 'pass' is the definition. As mentioned somewhere earlier in this forum, 32a is a double definition. An ordinary word meaning having a sharp point (could also describe gelled hair sticking up like one of 'The Young Ones'). It also means (very) High Church according to Chambers. Second letter of answer is one of the letters of 28d.
