I assume you have the correct phrase - You need two extra letters - the first two lines you draw will each go to the perimeter of the grid - Is that helpful?

Doh! Doh! Doh! thanks very much. All sorted now. I think my 6th letter was wrong (in the grid) but finally finished. I think what threw me was that the 2nd word could be completely formed by the bottom horizontal of the 'box' and I never really revisited that.

Oh well only 2 days until 4477!

Yes indeed - Strangely (coming from a mathematical background) I usually take a weekend off these days when they appear. Wonder if that is only me! Coincidentally the final shape seems well-favoured by Listener setters of late...

Just to add my appreciation, absolutely excellent puzzle. Can't parse 11d though, would appreciate someone explaining it. Fortunately the 'i' was confirmed by the endgame. Thanks.

Hello to all.
I have been struggling with this and many thanks for the hints.
I have the two names and some idea of the story, but I am left with a central square and a large kite thing whose point starts just below and to the left of the top left hand corner of the square.
Is that it, or am I missing something??
Any hints would be much appreciated

Best wishes
