Hi, Rusty!
It was very pleasant out.
Not as chilly as I was expecting, but very muddy underfoot in the woods!
Fortunately, the dog is going to the Groomers for a trim tomorrow, so cleaning her up will be easier after that!
We bought the paper on the way home, so I have been looking up the reference to brightness on the Tech page, as mentioned previously.
Unfortunately, however, it bears no relevance to night-time brightness on a desk top, but refers to an adaptive brightness feature on a laptop, measuring ambient light using the laptop's camera; the aim being to reduce brightness and save power.
Ah well, worth a try.........
And I am certainly learning a lot along the way......
Now to have a look at the ST crossword puzzle!

Hello, Elle!
I (hopefully) have downloaded this page from YouTube.
It has tutorials on adjusting the screen brightness thingy.

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=disable+screen+brightness+on+desktop

I hope it may offer you some guidance?

Sorry, Elle, that did not work!
But if you type "disable screen brightness on desktop" in YouTube searchbox there are several videos showing how to do it.

Hi, Rusty!
Thank you for your information.......
I do so appreciate your taking the time and trouble to try to help!
I have looked at various links on YouTube and Google.
Unfortunately, none of it appears applicable because I do not have the relevant "bits" on my computer, monitor nor keyboard!
( See previous post 17291 for further clarity.......)
I have neither sliding rule for brightness adjustment on my computer, nor a button on my monitor, nor an "Fn" button on my keyboard!
I appear to be scuppered!
Now.......I have been talking to my cousin, as usual on a Sunday evening...... ........
Interestingly, she has this night - time brightness on her tablet!
But she has the relevant scale with which to alter the night-brightness!
(Another hour before I start getting my little on screen notes........ about how long it will be before I shall "wake up" at 7.30am!)
I am gradually adjusting though to coping with the dim light.
I need a coffee now , after all that talking (the past hour) to my cousin!

Hello, Elle!
That's a pity!
You'll have to find a teenager to fix it.
They are the biz with technology!
I suspect it will be somewhere in "Display".
Have you tried "clicking" on these "on screen notes"?
Maybe an off switch in one of them?
I have been watching the golf from America.
Great weather over there.
It is quite cold here.

Hi, Rusty!
Has your golf finished?
I didn't have the opportunity to watch the ATP tennis Final this evening, but I have heard that Grigor Dimitrov won, beating the Belgian player, David Goffin.
They say that Dimitrov is referred to as "Little Fed", as his style is so similar to that of Roger.
I am halfway through my book by P.D James, and am greatly enjoying it.
I wonder will there be any worthwhile offers in the Black Friday Sale?
Do you have plans to buy anything?
It was feeling cold here, too, when I let the dog out into the garden, about ten minutes ago.
But the forecast is for damp but milder weather tomorrow.

Hello, Elle!
Have you tried using the on screen keyboard on your desktop?
That may have a "FN" key?
Currys Black Friday sale has already started.
I am pondering buying another chromebook.
Just a little ponder, though.
Are you pondering buying anything?
Quite cold here too.

Hi, Rusty!
I am ashamed to admit that I didn't know there was such a thing as an on screen keyboard!
But I have now found it.......however, clicking on the Fn key there doesn't do anything?
I think perhaps one is meant to hold it down? or maybe press it in conjunction with another F key (but there aren't any)
Unfortunately, I cannot for the moment find the reference that I had previously read about using the Fn key to adjust the night-brightness..........
I am afraid that all this is becoming way over my head .......
It is too confusing for me!
I might look for possible Christmas gifts on Black Friday?

Hello, Elle!
Do not be ashamed!
It is only a bit of technology, after all!
If you have tried holding it down, or tapping it a few times to see if the screen brightens and it has not, just forget about it.
Your daughter will sort you out when she visits.
It is not worth getting yourself into a fankle about it!
Black Friday?
I know Currys sale has started, but it depends on what gifts you had in mind?
I am looking at an Asus chromebook.
It has had £50 knocked off the price.
A suggestion.
Google "Black Friday sales" and see what turns up, to give you an idea?
Amazon are taking part, I believe.

Good morning, Rusty!
A wet, slightly less cold, one today!
No morning walk today, as the dog is going to the Groomer's for a bath and a trim in about 30 minutes .
What is a "fankle"? That is a new word to me?
My desk top is an Asus....I have been well pleased with it (until this night-time brightness shenanigans!)
Yes, I shall check on Amazon for book bargains!
I bought the entire Jane Austen series one Black Friday!
An excellent bargain it was, too!
What are you up to today?
