Good evening, Elle!
It is helluva rude to say "shut your trap", but it happens!
We have a similar phrase up here, "haud your wheesht", or simply "wheesht", and I am sure you have never came across it!
It is not a phrase that I would use...well, not very often, anyway!
Wonder if Chambers has it?
Anne Bradford has it under "silence"!
That is the second time I have came across "nates" in a clue lately.
It was a new word to me, too!
There is a lot to learn in the crossword puzzle land.

Just thought I would drop in and let you know that I am OK!
I don't always have anything of interest to say, or when I could
have taken part in a discussion, by the time I read the thread, it is
much too late !
We are having cold(ish) nights with some minus 3 to5 in the wee
hours, but the days, though cold to me (!) are in fact not too bad
for November here - I have known several instances when the
canal and river froze in November! Usually colder than December.
I have not been up to much, but keep busy myself on my little
project (comparative study between agricultural world in France
and England in 18th and 19th centuries - I may have already mentioned this).

BTW, I certainly have not lived a sheltered life! I have definitely
heard the expressions 'shut your gob' and 'shut your trap'
though only occasionnally and almost in jest.

Hope you are both OK - well, I keep up with your knews on this
thread!

My weather is cold and wet today.
I much prefer bright frosty weather at this time of year.
I am very surprised that Elle does not know these phrases.

I think I probably did have quite a sheltered upbringing!
It doesn't seem to have done me any harm!!
I have heard my Scottish cousin say "Whisht, now!" to the children........
He would say it in a gentle manner though?
I took it to mean "Hush, now....."?
I am reading my book in between looking in on here.....
I think tomorrow I might try taking advantage of any Amazon Black Friday book offers....... and do some stocking up on reading material.
Have you checked them out?

Yes, "whisht" does mean "hush".
A fine word I think!
I only looked at Chromebooks on Amazon.
They have a Black Friday page.
Type "Black Friday" in the Amazon search box and you can explore from there.
I have no book at present.
Unusual for me!

My daughter's link to the night-time settings has made no difference whatsoever!
No matter what I do, the light still dims!
And my little on- screen notes still appear at half hourly intervals ........an apparent countdown till morning.......

Is there an Asus or Windows "chat helpline" you could use to ask for assistance?

My browser is still Internet Explorer...but it has been working ok?
I perhaps should change/ update to Microsoft Edge?
But will leave making any decisions until my daughter is here "on site", and can assess the situation!
She does after all have a degree in Software Engineering!
